Police Scotland has confirmed it is conducting active inquiries into the activities of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Jeffrey Epstein, and Ghislane Maxwell during their visits to Balmoral Castle. The investigation follows allegations reported by the Daily Express, which suggest that women may have been trafficked to the royal estate in Aberdeenshire.
Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died in 2019, and Maxwell, who received a prison sentence in 2022 for sex trafficking, reportedly visited the Aberdeenshire residence alongside Mountbatten-Windsor. Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any involvement in wrongdoing, and his representatives have been contacted for comment regarding the latest developments.
A spokesperson for the force stated that they have received information and that inquiries are currently at a very early stage.
The police emphasized that their work is evidence-led, with the needs of victim survivors remaining at the heart of the process. Officials added that it would be inappropriate to comment further while the investigation is ongoing, citing a policy of not confirming specific details of active cases.
The British Royal family has a long-standing tradition of spending their summer months at the Balmoral estate, which also served as the location where Queen Elizabeth II passed away in 2022. An image previously released by the US Department of Justice appears to show both Epstein and Maxwell on the castle grounds.
This investigation follows an appeal by police in February seeking information from the public regarding Epstein’s use of a private jet at Edinburgh Airport. At that time, officers noted they had not received any formal reports or complaints specifically concerning the nature of those trips. Law enforcement continues to manage these inquiries as they assess the gathered information.
