Bangladesh all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain believes the team can channel the spirit of their 2019 tri-series success as they head into the upcoming three-nation tournament in the United Arab Emirates. Facing off against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, the squad is aiming to replicate the confidence they gained in Ireland seven years ago, where Mosaddek famously sealed a victory against the West Indies with an unbeaten 52. If you talk about the 2019 tri-series, I would call it a source of inspiration.
Speaking to reporters in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, October 15, Mosaddek emphasized the importance of this series as a springboard for future ICC events. He noted that performing well as a collective unit in these conditions will simplify the challenges they face ahead of the Asia Cup and the subsequent World Cup. He warned against underestimating any opponent, noting that the landscape of modern ODI cricket has become increasingly competitive, requiring full focus from the start. I would say our preparation is good.
The squad began their preparations at the Sheikh Abu Jayed Stadium on Thursday, though all-rounder Mehidy Hasan sat out the session with a minor fever. A team official confirmed it was a precautionary measure, stating, “Nothing serious as he was having a slight fever and as it was day practice he was just given rest.”
This tournament marks a significant milestone for Litton Das, who enters his first assignment as the country’s full-time ODI captain. With the 2027 World Cup cycle in mind, the series serves as a critical period for Litton to imprint his leadership style on the squad. Mosaddek offered high praise for his new skipper, highlighting his strategic insight: “He is a very exciting captain, and the way he reads the game while standing behind the stumps, as a wicketkeeper, is excellent. I think he will do well as captain, and as a team, Inshallah, we will prove that.” So, I think this is a challenge for us, to see how well we can perform here.
The team has already held internal discussions to streamline their tactical approach. According to Mosaddek, Litton has clearly communicated individual responsibilities to every member of the squad to ensure complete clarity during match play. Bangladesh is scheduled to launch their campaign in Abu Dhabi against Zimbabwe on October 17, followed by a clash against Afghanistan in Sharjah on October 21. Mosaddek added that the players had already been informed about their responsibilities as Litton is clear about their individual roles ahead of the tournament. “We had a discussion among ourselves last night, including with the captain.
