Long before her wedding to actor Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai provided a candid glimpse into what she sought in a partner during a conversation with the veteran actress Farida Jalal. Rai emphasized that a man’s character was far more significant than superficial traits, noting that she particularly valued a sense of humor and the humility to laugh at one’s own mistakes. She described the ideal partner as someone sensitive, respectful of both themselves and others, and refreshingly uncomplicated. She explained that because she considers herself a people-person, it is vital for her to be with someone non-judgmental who can connect with others authentically. And hence, her partner should not be judgemental of others, something she termed was extremely important to her. “See, sensitive, have a great sense of humour, have an ability to laugh at himself, aishwarya added that as she is a people’s person. “And more than anything else, I think, see these… that will just go on and on and on.

Reflecting on what sustains a long-term connection, Rai identified compatibility as the essential “fine thread” that holds a relationship together. According to her, what makes a relationship last at the end of the day is compatibility, aishwarya went on to add that.

While acknowledging the importance of love, she maintained that compatibility serves as the underlying magic that allows a partnership to endure over time. This foundational perspective on relationships predated her high-profile union with Bachchan, whom she married in a traditional ceremony on April 20, 2007. The couple, who became parents to daughter Aaradhya Bachchan on November 16, 2011, previously collaborated on numerous cinematic projects, including “Kuch Naa Kaho,” “Dhoom 2,” “Sarkar Raj,” “Umrao Jaan,” “Guru,” and “Raavan. Reports suggest their first meeting occurred in 1999 during the photoshoot for their debut project together, “Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke.” They took the next step in their journey on Nov.16, 2011 as they welcomed their first child, daughter Aaradhya Bachchan.

Beyond her personal reflections, the iconic style associated with Rai’s filmography continues to garner attention. Costume designer Neeta Lulla recently revisited the creation of a standout ensemble worn by Rai in the 2003 film “Dil Ka Rishta.” The outfit, featured in the track “Saajan Saajan,” was designed to marry traditional Indian craftsmanship with a modern, sensual aesthetic. The design included a corset-style blouse paired with a slim leopard-print skirt worn over trousers featuring a unique slit—a bold fashion choice for the screen at the time. In a video shared on Instagram, Neeta said: “So this one is for the DM that I received about ‘Dil Ka Rishta,’ stating that that was every girl’s dream outfit.

In a social media tribute, Lulla recalled the creative process behind the look, noting that it was specifically conceived to be a glamorous dream outfit. She highlighted that integrating the trousers underneath the skirt was a pioneering move for the screen, facilitated by Rai’s ability to pull off the complex, fusion-inspired silhouette. Lulla emphasized that the ensemble’s focus on intricate zardozi work helped keep the aesthetic deeply rooted in Indian tradition despite its contemporary, avant-garde structural elements.
