During a candid appearance on the sixth season of the popular talk show Koffee With Karan, actress Katrina Kaif opened up about her evolving outlook on romantic relationships. Reflecting on her personal growth, she emphasized that individuals should never rely on their partners as the primary source of their own happiness. She noted that for much of her life, she had subconsciously tied her self-esteem and internal sense of worth to the level of attention and affection received from a significant other, a pattern she eventually recognized as counterproductive. As she was interacting with host and filmmaker Karan Johar during the chat show, ‘Koffee With Karan season 6’, she shared that she had realised over the years that we should not depend on anyone else for our happiness.

Addressing the common societal pressure that suggests women must have a male partner to be complete, Kaif stated that this narrative does not resonate with her experiences as a single person. She explained that she has found genuine comfort in her own identity, moving away from the cycle where relationship fluctuations dictate one’s self-image. According to the Tiger Zinda Hai star, placing the burden of one’s personal happiness on a partner is inherently unsustainable, as both individuals will inevitably face moments where they let the other down, ultimately straining the bond. They felt most women need men or it’s necessary to have a man. You feel great about yourself, when your relationship is amazing. You shouldn’t give away your power because you are burdening that person with responsibility.

For Kaif, the ideal partnership is defined by mutual autonomy rather than reliance. She described the most beautiful form of love as a connection where two people do not require the other to function, but rather share a space characterized by ease, admiration, mutual respect, and companionship. These insights into emotional independence have shaped her current chapter of life, as she is now married to actor Vicky Kaushal, with whom she shares a son, Vihaan. I really don’t think that’s true for everyone.

The actress’s journey to stardom began after she was discovered by filmmaker Kaizad Gustad at a fashion show in London, leading to her debut in the 2003 film Boom. Despite that initial project being a critical and commercial disappointment, Kaif persevered through challenges with language barriers and early criticism regarding her acting style. Following her work in the 2004 Telugu film Malliswari, she eventually found significant commercial success in Bollywood with hit comedies such as Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? in 2005 and Namastey London in 2007.

Beyond her cinematic career, which includes a string of box-office successes and diverse roles, Kaif is actively involved in humanitarian work. She frequently participates in stage performances and supports Relief Projects India, a charity led by her mother that provides assistance to underprivileged children. Born in Hong Kong and having lived in various countries before settling in London, Kaif has navigated a complex path from a teenage model to one of the most recognized faces in the Indian film industry.
