Naman Dhir has been drafted into India’s T20I squad to replace Washington Sundar for the upcoming five-match series against the West Indies. Sundar, who is currently competing at the Asian Games in Japan, has been released from the T20I roster to prioritize red-ball preparations. The selection committee aims for the all-rounder to gain valuable first-class match practice during the Ranji Trophy season, which begins on October 11, ahead of India’s demanding two-Test series in New Zealand starting November 19 in Wellington.

Dhir, who previously earned his ODI cap in Trivandrum, enters the T20I setup with significant domestic experience. Across 61 T20 matches, he has accumulated 1,222 runs at a strike rate of 156.26 while claiming eight wickets at an economy of 9.40. During the 2026 IPL season, he played in all 14 matches for the Mumbai Indians, scoring 318 runs at a strike rate of 147.22, a performance that included two half-centuries. In 61 T20s, however, he has scored 1222 runs at a strike-rate of 156.26 and taken eight wickets at an economy of 9.40.

In related team news, the selectors have added fast bowler Anshul Kamboj to the ODI squad for the third match in New Chandigarh. He replaces Prasidh Krishna, who has been sidelined by a hamstring injury and is heading to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for rehabilitation. Kamboj, who made his Test debut in Manchester last year, is currently participating in the unofficial Tests between India A and Australia A in Puducherry. While he remains uncapped in limited-overs international cricket, his inclusion strengthens the bowling lineup for the remainder of the series.
