Bollywood actress and environmental advocate Dia Mirza has opened up about the core principles she is instilling in her son, Avyaan. Recognizing the vital role parents play in shaping the next generation, Mirza emphasizes the need to teach young boys the importance of empathy, kindness, and a sophisticated understanding of consent.

Reflecting on her daily efforts as a mother, Mirza explains that her guidance goes far beyond teaching a child to understand the word ‘no’. She strives to help Avyaan recognize subtle signs of discomfort in others, ensuring he learns to respect personal boundaries. “Every single day, I strive to teach my son the value of care, respect, empathy and kindness towards all,” she shared. Her approach encourages him to interpret consent as an active, willing choice rather than merely the absence of a refusal. She wants him to understand that a comfortable, enthusiastic ‘yes’ is the foundation of respectful interactions.

Furthermore, the actress highlights that rejection should never be treated as a personal insult or a signal to negotiate. Mirza believes it is essential for boys to learn that they are not entitled to another person’s attention, affection, or intimacy. By shifting this perspective, she hopes to contribute to a safer, more equitable environment for girls. She encapsulates this philosophy with the sentiment that society should raise boys who do not cause harm, rather than simply training girls to avoid it. According to she, Rejection should not be viewed as an insult or something that needs to be challenged or negotiated. “That no one owes him their attention, affection, or intimacy, and that rejection is neither an insult nor some. More equitable, and healthier for our girls,” she concluded, only then can we build a world that is safer.

Mirza’s life at home reflects these values alongside her professional commitments. She married businessman Vaibhav Rekhi on February 15, 2021, in an intimate ceremony at her residence in Bandra, Mumbai, and the couple welcomed Avyaan later that year. She also maintains a close bond with her stepdaughter, Samaira Rekhi, from her husband’s previous marriage.

Professionally, Mirza recently portrayed Kamalpreet Dhanoa in the Netflix series “Operation Safed Sagar: The Untold Story of the Kargil War,” which premiered on August 7, 2026. Describing the role as a “privilege of a lifetime,” she performed alongside a cast including Jimmy Shergill, Siddharth, Harssh A. Singh, Adil Hussain, and Pawan Chopra. Beyond her screen work, she continues to advocate for mindful living, encouraging her audience to disconnect from the frantic pace of modern consumption. She also spoke about making the most of opportunities to disconnect from the constant rush of consumption and encouraged her followers to take a pause.
