The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is currently exploring the possibility of staging a bilateral series against Nepal by 2027. Officials confirmed on Saturday, September 12, that they have received a formal proposal from the Nepal Cricket Association. Shahriar Nafees, the BCB’s cricket operations in-charge, described the board’s stance as highly positive regarding the invitation to play on Nepalese soil.
Discussions between the two cricket boards are underway to determine if such a series can be accommodated within the existing, packed Future Tours Programme (FTP). Nafees noted that while the schedule is demanding, the BCB is working to find a convenient window before the 2027 cycle concludes. He emphasized that once the planning reaches a definitive stage, the board will provide a formal update, reiterating that the initial communication from Nepal has been met with significant interest.
Regarding immediate team commitments, Nafees announced that preparations for the upcoming Asian Games will officially commence on September 13, focusing on skill development. Meanwhile, players not participating in the Asian Games have already begun a conditioning camp to prepare for the forthcoming series against Afghanistan. This camp will run until the squad departs for the United Arab Emirates, after which the remaining players will head to the National Cricket League (NCL).
The board maintains a rigorous forward-looking approach to scheduling, with practice sessions for 2026 having been mapped out as early as 2025. Similarly, projections for 2027 are scheduled for completion in 2026, allowing for necessary fine-tuning as dates approach. The BCB expects to receive confirmation regarding the venues for the Afghanistan series within the coming week. As the tour is officially hosted by Afghanistan, their board holds the authority to finalize the locations.
While the specific venues remain unconfirmed, Nafees acknowledged that options in the UAE are constrained to a few primary sites. He noted that the games could potentially be held in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Sharjah, with the Afghanistan Cricket Board expected to provide formal confirmation of the match sites shortly.
